Its been years since i picked up a book that kept me engaged. Scott H. Silverman's book The Opioid Epidemic is an engaging read. It shines light on the seriousness of the opioid crisis in our country. I think this book would benefit anybody who is struggling with addiction, or anybody who knows somebody in the perils of addiction, to be very valuable. Not only is it a great source of information but its a practical guide to solutions. I'm forever grateful for this book. I hope this book finds its way into the the hands those that are battling or affected by the disease of addiction. Hope is written in the pages of the book.

A Practical Guide to Getting Help

Scott Silverman has managed to masterfully produce a work that everyone can understand. To many self-help books are complicated to follow, but his guide allows anyone to get help for their loved ones who struggle with addiction. Well written and easy to follow, Scott manages to stress the urgency of the opioid epidemic for those of us who may be in denial while still giving hope to people who may already be at the end of their rope. A book well worth the read that needs to be passed on to everyone in order to save lives.

The Opioid Epidemic is written by a man I've known for many years. As a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, who sometimes treats patients who are substance abusers, Scott has repeatedly been a useful resource to me. He has been one of the primary players in the treatment of all addictions in San Diego for the last 30 years. After struggling with his own addictions and then getting clean, he did a deep dive into working with addicts and alcoholics. That has become his life's work. You won't meet a more knowledgeable person about these matters.

Do you have a substance abuse problem? Does someone in your family have such troubles, a spouse or a child? How do you spot such a person? The identification is not simple because all addiction and alcoholics are liars. Probably the most important question after you've identified the troubled person is what to do with them. Scott can now be a help to you, through this book, just as he has been to me for many years. We know this is not an uncommon ailment since nearly 15% of the population in the United States have addiction problems.
